SILENT ROOM  V.04

Year 2024
London Festival of Architecture

The material research for The Silent Room V4 began in Brazil during a residency at Casa Figueira, where we assembled the first prototype using bamboo and felt. These materials were chosen not only for their aesthetic and tactile qualities but also for their unique properties—bamboo, known for its rapid growth and remarkable structural strength, and felt, a soft yet durable material that can be recycled and repurposed, echoing the sustainability principles of earlier iterations.

Today, the tent stands on-site, raw and weathering naturally, embraced by wild vegetation. Its interior is enclosed by polycarbonate panels, which introduce a delicate balance between openness and seclusion. These panels, skilfully integrated into the LJ Works site, filter light and sound, allowing the structure to exist as both a refuge and a porous extension of its surroundings. The interplay of materials and environment reinforces The Silent Room V4’s ongoing exploration of sensory reduction, spatial awareness, and the relationship between built and organic landscapes.
